Though the agriculture industry of Southern California was a powerhouse for the economy of the United States during the 20th century, the corrupt companies at the top had unfair labor laws put in place against the Filipinos and the Mexicans that led to growing tensions among these farmers. Shining light on the injustice, the farmers amalgamated under the UFW, and went on strike against their employers. The Delano Grape Strikes gained national attention with millions of people boycotting these previously unbeatable grape companies, and after five years of arduous work, the government enacted legislation that BROKE multiple BARRIERS in the agriculture industry, and these strikes coupled with other civil rights movements facilitated equality for all types of people in America .
